COPMANTHORPE upset the formbook to dent Huntington Rovers' York Minster Engineering League premier division title hopes - coming from behind to beat them 3-2.

Rovers are now six points behind leaders Dunnington with only one game in hand, making their clash two weekends hence a must-win game.

Copmanthorpe took an early lead through Robin Bedford before Huntington turned things around through James Edmond and Chris Dyson.

However, Danny Leach equalised midway through the second half and then then sealed the points late on with a precision header.

Dunnington saw off lowly Brooklyn 7-0.

Robert Chipps (2), Martin Day, Kieran Bidgood, Callum Richardson and Grant Bulmer were on target for the Common Road outfit, with an own goal supplementing their haul.

Wigginton Grasshoppers avenged their 4-3 loss to F1 Racing earlier in the season, inflicting the New Earswick side’s biggest league defeat upon them.

After a bright opening spell from F1, Wiggy took the lead through a Luke Roberts penalty, and didn’t look back, running out worthy 6-0 winners.

Gary Newton headed home to make it 2-0 before the break, and Roberts added his second, and Grasshoppers’ third, shortly after the restart.

Josh Luckhurst bagged a quickfire brace either side of the 70-minute mark, and Jordan Holt wrapped up the win with a 20-yard free-kick late in the game.

York RI moved up to sixth with a 3-1 triumph at Harrison Signs.

Danny Gray struck to give RI the lead after a quarter of an hour but Dan Temple levelled for Signs just before the hour.

Gray once again put Railway Institute back in control shortly after, before Shaun Stockdale sealed the points with 15 minutes remaining.

Osbaldwick continued their recent run of good form, a 4-2 win over Dringhouses lifting them six points clear of the drop zone.

Adam Burton put Osbaldwick in front after 20 minutes before Sam Backhouse restored parity with 37 minutes played.

Matt Hattee fired Osso back into the lead five minutes later but Liam Robertson levelled for the home side shortly after the break.

A strong closing period for the visitors led to Chris Bilton scoring twice to wrap the game up for Osbaldwick, his initial strike coming via the penalty spot.

In Division One, third-placed Poppleton United moved to within two points of table-toppers Pocklington Town following a 5-2 success against Easingwold Town.

Ben Brannigan and Reece Holmes struck two goals apiece for the home side, with Joe Dale also making the scoresheet.

Sporting Knavesmire defeated York St John 2-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Simpson and Danny Owers.

 

TWO York Minster Engineering League division two title contenders locked horns as Kirkbymoorside and Thorpe United fought out a 3-3 draw.

Before the game, there was two minutes' silence held in memory of local football stalwart Bob Pettitt, who passed away recently.

The Moorsiders made the perfect start as Jason Brown broke down the right, crossing for Alex Strickland.

He in turn found Danny Butterworth, who slotted home to make it 1-0 inside the first minute.

Thorpe, initially unnerved, took control but could not level and the second period again saw the hosts fly out of the blocks, Brown completing a one-two with Strickland before beating Howard at his near post.

However, Mike Braithwaite sent James Barrett clear and he powered his shot into the roof of the net to make it 2-1, before he returned the compliment for Braithwaite to equalise.

Kirkby regained the advantage a minute later when Brown found Josh Butler, who fired a low shot across the keeper into the goal.

A Thorpe attack from the restart yielded a penalty, and Luke Crowther netted it to grab the Selby side a share of the spoils.

Leaders Barmby Moor also drew - being held 4-4 by second-bottom Hamilton Panthers.

Third-placed Haxby United beat Strensall 5-4, Charlie Coupland (2), Danny Mason and Liam Wingfield on target for the losers.

Wilberfoss maintained their 100 per cent record in division three, winning the top-of-the-table clash 3-2 against Moor Lane.

Phil O'Reilly (2) and Jed Vale netted for Foss, Chris McClusky and Dave Dawson replying.

Civil Service rose to fourth by defeating Cawood 7-2. Declan Richardson (2), Craig Theaker, Carl Shepherd, Lucas Owen, Jason Hogg and Ben Holding all scored.

Huby United surprised South Milford, beating the title hopefuls 4-3 and taking the points with virtually the last kick of the game.

Daniel Withington (2) and Chris Smurthwaite fired home for the visitors but their strikes were outpointed by a Mark Cobb hat-trick and an own goal.

Division four leaders Heworth Green made it 13 straight league wins with a 5-0 success over Huntington, Dan Marshall (2), Freddy Robinson, John Moore and Jericho Keys all hitting the target. Wetherby Athletic saw off New York WMC 8-1.

 

HUNTINGTON Rovers moved seven points clear of Dunnington at the top of York Minster Engineering League reserve 'A' with a 7-1 win over Riccall United.

Ash Hill put Rovers ahead when he pounced on a rebound from a Ben Thompson strike before Bailey Smurthwaite equalised.

The home lead was restored by what Huntington secretary Eric Dower described as "the best goal seen at Huntington in many years" – a perfect volley from Pete Laidlaw into the stanchion of the goal.

Ben Thompson (2), Lee Bunce (2) and Kieran Flanagan completed the convincing victory.

Old Malton St Mary’s climbed to third with a 5-1 defeat of Copmanthorpe. Terry Hibbert netted for the visitors.

Thorpe Untied and Harrison Signs drew 2-2. Chris Bullen and Glynn Welsby were on the mark for Signs.

Wigginton Grasshoppers' woes continued as they fell 2-1 at home to a resurgent Tadcaster Magnets.

Jack Thompson gave Wiggy an early lead but Magnets struck a goal in each half to claim the points.

Murray Coyle was on target for Dringhouses at Church Fenton White Horse but they lost 4-1, their third defeat on the bounce.

Reserve 'B' leaders Malton & Norton were held to a goalless draw at Easingwold Town.

Haxby United were rampant at Brooklyn, winning 8-2, Chris Leedham and George Pierson replying for the hosts.

Defences struggled as Stamford Bridge won 7-5 at Bishopthorpe United. Sam Wood (2), Will Wood (2), Jordan Elliot, Andrew Healey and Connor Richardson bagged for the visitors.

Reserve 'C' title favourites Osbaldwick continued their good form with a 4-1 win over Cliffe -Oliver Green (2), Steve Smith and an own goal finding the net. Newstead responded in the last minute.

Osso remain two points behind Civil Service with four games in hand. James Shaw (2), Olly Cook and Matty Williams ensured the current leaders stayed top with a 4-2 win over Fulford.

George Cooper (3), Danny Penrose and Chris Helm gave F1 Racing a 5-1 triumph over visitors Wilberfoss, for whom Keith Meredith struck a consolation.

Malt Shovel edged Rufforth United 2-1 while Selby Olympia despatched Poppleton United 5-1.
