TWO top drawer goalkeepers could soon be on their way to Pickering Town.

Manager Paul Marshall believes he has tied up the signature of former player Arran Reid and is also running the rule over Liversedge's Sam Dodds as he looks to shore up a position which has caused the club grief in recent seasons.

With pre-season fast approaching, Marshall was also thrilled to have re-signed defender Niall Tilsley and midfielder Ryan Cooper. The Pikes chief has been vocal in his desire to lead the club into the top five of the Northern Counties East League premier division next season.

He said: "We are actively in the market for players and are looking at certain ones. There are still a lot of good players at Pickering last year that we need to tie down and make sure are going to come back.

"To top it off, Arran Reid is signing. Goalkeeper is a key position at any club and Arran is one of the best. He has had a couple of injuries but, hopefully, he is going to have a really good go. He should be coming into his prime at 27.

"We are also looking at a keeper from Liversedge in Sam Dodds, who has got Evo-Stik experience. If we could get both signed on, that would be great. Both will want to play, and both are at an age where they should be playing, but I will be trying my hardest."

On the news that Tilsley and Cooper have committed themselves to playing at the Recreation Ground next season, Marshall added: "Niall Tilsley has re-signed. He is only a young lad and he was very good last year. He was a key player to get re-signed. Ryan Cooper has also re-signed. He scores plenty of goals from midfield and he used to be at Barton Town.

"Assistant manager Denny Ingram is going to play as well. It is get to get those players signed on early on. It means we know we can work with them all pre-season. Denny is going to become a manager in time. He's got used to me during two years at Tadcaster and he will hopefully play another couple of years for Pickering."

Marshall announced that the club will be holding an evening with BBC TV football commentator Guy Mowbray at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday, August 12.

Mowbray will be accompanied by York City's academy head Andy McMillan, who is still second in the Minstermen's all-time appearances list having played 492 times at full-back between 1987 and 1999.
