A FLUKED black earned Huntington’s Adam Scaife victory over club-mate Barry Rankin in the final of the York CIU individual snooker knockout.

Rankin went 35 ahead in the final at Acomb with only one red left on the table, but Scaife fought back to gain two snookers.

Scaife was then left with an easy pot on a red and he added a black and the first three colours to level the scores.

Although Scaife went ahead by potting the blue, Rankin hit back with the pink, only for his opponent to eventually fluke the black to win.

In the semi-finals, Scaife hit two 20-plus breaks in an easy win over York RI’s Jason Milner.

Rankin came through an hour-long battle with York RI’s Steve Burdett. Needing only the brown, Rankin missed and Burdett looked poised to clear up.

However, he potted brown, blue and pink before missing a straightforward black.

Rankin hammered in a long black to book his place in the final.
