YORK'S top golfers came together for a pre-season tournament as they bid to get their 2015 campaign off to a good start.

A selected group of 36 convened at Pike Hills GC for a Texas Scramble competition, which will now be played for annually as the LRB Trophies Cup.

One senior team player, a junior player and a squad player made up a three ball and, of the 12 that took part, it was Fulford's Jamie Miller, Harry Lee (Oaks) and George Stevens (Easingwold) who came out on top with a score of 60.1.

The Union stalwart was accompanied by two 14-year-olds to take the spoils. The body is hoping to replicate a stellar 2014 which saw them win the Yorkshire Inter-District Union scratch league and finish second in the six-man team event.

Martin Greaves, the incoming president of the York Union of Golf Clubs, said: "The idea was to build team spirit and prepare the lads for the coming season - all part of our strategy in bringing the juniors through the ranks.

"The Pike Hills course was in great condition and was given over to the Union for two hours for the 12 three-balls that went out."

The prizes were presented by Pike Hills captain Martin Robinson along with LRB Trophies' Steve Butler.
