PAUL HANAGAN bypasses the main Goodwood meeting today to travel to Redcar for two mounts for a trainer who dominated proceedings on Monday.

Charlie Appleby, who operates under the Godolphin banner at Newmarket, sent out no fewer than six winners, five at Kempton and one at Leicester, all with juveniles.

Significantly, Hanagan, has been engaged to partner two Appleby youngsters this afternoon in the two divisions of the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Hills And Dales, who runs in the first leg, has already had a couple of outings and finished a creditable second to Dancetrack at Leicester on his latest start over seven furlongs after attempting to make all the running. The son of Acclamation may be able to go one better this time.

Hanagan and Appleby team up with a newcomer in the other division. Second Wave is a well-bred son of New Approach. It is anyone's guess how much ability he possesses, but given his pedigree and the form of his trainer, he clearly merits plenty of respect.

Hanagan, who faces a busy second half of the week at Newmarket's Cambridgeshire meeting, will also be aboard Old Fashion for Ed Dunlop In the Hold Your Christmas Party Here Nursery Handicap.

The two-year-old has shown glimpsers of ability and has a fighting chance back on turf after running on an artificial surface on his last two starts.

Paul Midgley aims to strike while the iron is hot with Orient Class in the Racing UK iPad App Handicap over five furlongs.

The three-year-old produced a career-best effort to win at Ayr last week and, on the evidence of that performance, has good prospects of defying a 6lb penalty. Graham Lee, seen to such good effect on the gelding in Scotland, again has the mount.

Also worth noting on Redcar's eight-race card are course-and-distance winners Sky Crossing (3.25) and Gabrial's Hope (4.35), the respective mounts of James Sullivan and Tony Hamilton.

At Goodwood, Grandeur will be aiming to take the plaudits for the second successive year.

The five-year-old, trained by Jeremy Noseda, won the featured £40,000 R N Hall Foundation Stakes 12 months ago and looks to have a solid chance of producing an encore. His last three races have been in the US where he has finished in the frame every time in Grade 1 and 2 races. Provided those travels have not taken their toll, Grandeur should be hard to beat under Ryan Moore, also in the saddle last season.

American Artist can land the nap in the opening British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

It is a measure of the promise this two-year-old colt must have been showing at home that he was sent off an odds-on favourite for his debut at Haydock earlier this month. In the event, he showed a little inexperience and was beaten into second place over six furlongs on good-to-soft ground.

American Artist now steps up to seven furlongs on a sound surface and, with a race under his belt, is fancied to show himself off in a favourable light.

Cam Hardie, whose father Willie is head lad at Tim Easterby's Great Habton yard, has proved one of the apprentice 'finds' of the season.

The 5lb claimer, who is attached to Richard Hannon's yard, has good prospects of adding to his rising tally of winners aboard the hat-trick seeking King Calypso in the Hildon Natural Mineral Water Handicap.
