ONE-TWO combinations were ideal for York golf ace Simon Dyson until he was stunned by a final brace in Turin.

The 36-year-old was vying for a top-15 position after the first day of the Italian Open only for successive dropped shots to send him down to a tie for 43rd place ahead of today’s second round.

He was again pitched into a first-round start on the tenth hole, where immediately he was in deficit with a bogey.

But Dyson countered with consecutive birdies on the 12th and 13th holes, a one-two feat he repeated on the 18th and first holes to put him three-under-par.

However, eyes on a spot among the early pace-setters was spiked when Dyson dropped shots on the third and fourth holes to leave him with a one-under 71.

That was five shy of joint first-day leaders, Italy’s Francesco Molinari and Bernd Weisberger of Austria at the Circolo course.
