HEWORTH ARLC ‘A’ let slip a lead in the final quarter for the second week running as they went down 34-22 at home to Bradford Dudley Hill in group two of the Yorkshire League.

The Villagers opened brightly when Billy Sturdy fooled the defence to race 50 metres for a superb try, to which Joe Deighton added the extras.

The visitors replied with two touchdowns and a goal after 30 minutes, but the hosts came back strongly to claim a 12-10 half-time lead when Andy Spencer put Tom Speck over for a try goaled by Deighton.

After the break Heworth shocked the leaders with a second try for Sturdy to finish excellent play by Lewis Hartley before the hard-working Tom Atkin crashed over. Deighton’s conversion giving them a 22-10 lead.

In a repeat of the previous week’s reverse fixture, Dudley Hill amassed points in the last 20 minutes to win.

Luke Caddie took the Heworth man of the match award and was well backed by his brother Adam, Max Colley, Nathan Jamieson and Paul Watson.
