A YORK teenager has been placed on the sex offenders register after he sexually abused his little sister for ten months, York Crown Court heard.

Giles Bridge, prosecuting, said the truth emerged when their mother realised something was wrong and asked the girl why she had been in her brother’s bedroom.

The brother told another child he had wanted to see what sexual activity felt like. The 16-year-old, from east York, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault covering ten months during which he had abused his sister on seven occasions.

He was given a youth rehabilitation order including a rehabilitation course and activities and reparation work.

He will also be on the sex offenders register for two-and-a-half years. He will work closely with both social services and the York youth offending team.

Judge Tom Bayliss QC said the abuse had been the “most dreadful thing” that had ever happened to the little girl but because of the brother’s age, the court’s concern was to ensure that he did not reoffend and his welfare had to be considered, as well as the need to deter others from doing the same.
