Ruth Carr’s Chosen One is fancied choice at Ayr

York Press: Ruth Carr’s Chosen One is fancied choice at Ayr Ruth Carr’s Chosen One is fancied choice at Ayr

CHOSEN ONE, a fluent winner at Ayr last week, returns to the Scottish course today from his North Yorkshire base with every chance of completing a quick double.

Trained at Stillington by Ruth Carr, pictured, who is enjoying an excellent season, Chosen One has been a stalwart of the Mowbray House stable for several seasons and tends to pay his way every year.

His latest success was achieved under Serena Brotherton in an amateur riders' handicap in which he made all the running and never looked like being caught.

Chosen One tackles Ayr's five furlongs again this afternoon for the Spincast At BetVictor Download The New App Handicap and although he faces a tougher test under a 6lb penalty, a bold bid is anticipated. Jimmy Sullivan, Carr's most regular jockey, takes the mount.

Hambleton trainer Bryan Smart sent out his first two juvenile winners of the campaign recently and now that his junior crop is starting to fire it could be worth relying on Ythan Waters to add to the tally in the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes.

The colt has shaped better with each of his three runs and was a clear second-best to the well-regarded Home Cummings at Redcar on his latest start. Ythan Waters may find opportunity knocking here provided he can overcome the similarly promising Gaudy, trained by Kevin Ryan, and Richard Fahey's Intiwin.

Fahey has several good chances of getting on the scoresheet during the afternoon and is fancied to complete a double with Tango Sky and Rainford Glory.

Tango Sky did well to finish third from a poor draw at Chester last time and makes appeal in the BetVictor.com Handicap, while Rainford Glory was a winner at Beverley ten days ago and has every chance of following-up in the Play Roulette & Blackjack At BetVictor.com Apprentice Handicap. Samantha Bell rides both horses for the Musley Bank yard which on Saturday sent out Heaven's Guest to win the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.

Newmarket trainer Ed Walker can make his long journey north worthwhile with Itsnowcato (3.30), a good second on his belated seasonal bow at Hamilton recently, while the in-form Order Of Service (5.00) may be able to provide Jim Goldie with another winner at a course where he does so well.

At Windsor's evening meeting, Tears Of The Sun is awarded the nap vote in the Betdaq The Sports Betting Exchange Handicap.

Trained at Newmarket by Roger Varian, who lifted Saturday's John Smith's Cup at York with Faraaj, Tears Of The Sun was a Brighton winner on her seasonal reappearance. She has since finished fifth at Chester, but she enjoyed no sort of run on that occasion after being badly hampered when going for an ambitious route up the rails early in the home straight. The chances are that she would have gone close to winning at Chester with a clean passage and compensation is expected to be gained this evening.

War Alert gets the vote in the Reuben Foundation Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

An expense purchase, owned by Qatar Racing and trained by David Brown, War Alert shaped well, despite being a beaten favourite, when third on her debut here last month. She is almost certainly capable of better and with that experience under her belt, she should go tonight under Jamie Spencer.

In the Betdaq Maiden Stakes, Heartbreak Hero can oblige for William Haggas and Ryan Moore.

The colt showed little on his debut, but he took a marked step forward at Yarmouth next time when finishing second in maiden company. Provided none of the newcomers in this race are well above average, Heartbreak Hero can be expected to take plenty of beating.

Course and distance winner Whitecrest (6.00) and the in-form Minstrel Lad (9.00) are two others to note at his popular Monday evening venue.
