Charity fillip at Sandburn

MORE THAN £1,200 was raised for charity when Sandburn Hall Golf Club held their Captain’s Charity Ball.

Present incumbent Colin McLorg organised the evening, which included ticket sales, donations and a raffle, in aid of St Leonard’s Hospice.

The ball was attended by more than 90 members and their guests with a total of £1,240 going to the York-based specialists in palliative care.

McLorg said: “I was very pleased with how it went. It was a good night and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We had quite a lot of raffle prizes and they were well mixed out.

“I admire the work that St Leonards’s do and I have been quite touched by it.

“I sat down with my wife and we decided that was the charity for us.

“I hope to make as much money for them as we possibly can while having a bit of fun at the same time.”

What a Belter

FLAMBOROUGH golfer Alex Belt’s fabulous run of form continued when he scooped the Yorkshire PGA Forest Park Trophy.

The 28-year-old fired a four-under-par 67 round the Old Foss Course, in Stockton-on-the-Forest, to claim the prize and provide ample compensation after he narrowly missed out in a play-off at the North PGA Sandburn Masters just days earlier.

Belt finished one shot clear of Joe Feather with Mid Yorkshire professional Aran Wainwright in third. Forest Park GC professional Mark Winterburn finished tied for seventh following a level-par 71.

Malton magic

MALTON and Norton GC stages the York Union of Golf Clubs’ ladies’ championship tomorrow.

The event has been won by Malton & Norton players in nine out of the last 13 years, including Judy Butler 12 months ago.
