NICK POPE has signed a new contract at Charlton that will keep him at The Valley until 2018.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper, a key part of the York City side that pushed into the League Two play-offs, has been rewarded for his efforts at Bootham Crescent with the new deal.

Pope will be in the frame to be Charlton's first-choice custodian next season with Ben Hamer due to sign for Leceister and Yohann Thuram-Ulien returning to Belgian outfit Standard Liege.

He kept 14 clean sheets in 20 matches for Nigel Worthington's side.

Pope told Charlton's website: "Things change in football and you have to go with it, but I think I did all I could at York. I didn’t leave anything there. I gave my all and did my best so I’ll work hard at Charlton and see what happens.

“I think this is the right place to develop and, with the right coaches around me, hopefully I can do that. This is where I want to play my football.”

Outstanding young keeper who will develop further at Charlton. We were never going to be able to keep him after his great performances at City. Best of luck Nick.

Don't be surprised to see him in the premiership in two years. and it will be a London club. I am told there is another young lad coming up at the club, he's a bit special ,when i'm told that I listen.

Great prospect and a talented all-round keeper, also so quick and agile on the ground for such a tall lad. It was a pleasure watching him and you felt absolutely confident that he would always turn in a strong, commanding performance. A couple of seasons in the Championship developing these talents and he should then be heading towards the Premiership. Continues the connection of Charlton keepers' and York City FC! COYR.

A very good young goalkeeper who played very well for us while on loan. Not yet the finished article, but he has a bright future in the game if he continues to improve. But we have to move on now and re-build our team, without the Goalkeeper and Full Backs who served us so well last season.

This what Femi said on his twitter page --
"This is not what I expected when agent said he had a new York offer. How do I get out of this? "
Hope is performances are as good as his banter.
As "Old head" says, we have now lost both full backs and the goalkeeper that for the last half of last season gave us such a fantastic defensive record. We still have both the very good centre backs and Femi looks the business. He has the reputation of being very strong and with Giant Jason in goal and Penne battling in midfield I can see NW is building a very strong team in more sense than one.
We need another full back and a midfield player who can use the ball and I think we are about there - providing a Portsmouth players dont crock our best players again !!!!!!!!

Not wishing to be critical of what you have written but as you know anyone can build a wall, we built one after Christmas, now we want couple that can knock one down, As I have said many times before I am a great fan of NW but he and his backroom guys have GOT to get his attacking force to come good.
we are fail up front and should one or two come a cropper early on there isn't any on the fringe, our problem all last season was converting the chances , too many easy ones missed that is why the 15 draws could have been 3 pointers instead of 1. Last season is gone no good dwelling on it , forget the ones that have left, we hope the ones new to the club will hit the ground running and get the goal difference higher this time.
I hope we can get a midfielder in that can graft ,hold the ball and draw defenders out of their comfort zone,i don't think another defender is the priority
I want to see good player behind the front three who can make things happen
I don't care if he's a short **** if he's got speed. shorter players have a better centre of gravity ,Also if NW get loan, players in I hope its season long ones.
