WOODHOUSE Grange collected the first silverware of the 2014 Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League season when they beat Dunnington by five wickets in the President’s Trophy.

Invited to bat first at Sutton-on-Derwent, a young and inexperienced Dunnington side were bowled out for 98 with only three batsmen reaching double figures.

Adam Iyer top-scored with 25, while Kevin Bradley and new skipper Jack Bolam each made 18.

The major wicket-taker was off-spinner Chris Suddaby with 3-13, which included two running catches from Steve Burdett.

Seamers Andrew Horner, David Suddaby and Tom Young took two wickets each.

When Woodhouse Grange replied they, initially found batting no easier as Josh Barrett claimed 3-24 and executed a run out.

The match was ostensibly won by Tom Young, who hit the day’s highest score with 42 not out off 49 balls with five fours and a six as Woodhouse reached 99-5.

League chairman Paul Harrand made the trophy presentation.
