WHITWELL-ON-THE-HILL’S Terry Temple knocked out Premier League star Dave Chisnall on his way to the last 16 of the latest PDC Players Championship event at Wigan.
Temple beat Chisnall 6-5 in the third round of the Robin Park Tennis Centre-hosted event before bowing out 6-1 to legendary five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld.
Earlier, the North Yorkshire number one polished off world number 27 Andy “The Pieman” Smith 6-2 and also overcame Tony Newell to set up a third-round clash with Chisnall.
During the previous day’s tournament, Temple fell at the first hurdle, going down 6-4 to top-16 player Kim Huybrechts.
York’s Martyn Turner, meanwhile, defeated this year’s BDO world champion Stephen Bunting 6-4 at the same event before succumbing to a 6-3 second-round defeat against Matt Clark.
In the first competition, Turner was knocked out in his opening match, losing 6-4 to Mark Barilli.
