YORK City manager Nigel Worthington has revealed he will hold talks with Michael Coulson about his Bootham Crescent future at the end of the season.

In-form Coulson scored the only goal during Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Portsmouth and has been a key figure during the Minstermen’s amazing transformation from relegation candidates to play-off contenders during the second half of the campaign.

Earlier in the season, the out-of-contract former Barnsley and Grimsby attacker was even overlooked for substitute duty during 14 consecutive games but his chances of landing a new deal in the summer now look a lot healthier.

Following Coulson’s matchwinning display at Fratton Park, Worthington said: “He found the first half of the season tough going and he probably looks at me as the reason for that and I look at him. In truth, it was probably 50-50 but he got his head down, worked hard and is getting his just rewards.

“He’s out of contract but I don’t want any distractions for him.

“We will get through what we are doing at the moment, then sit down and discuss a way forward with him.”

Worthington has demanded his team become more ruthless, with Ryan Bowman guilty of his second open-goal gaffe in as many weeks at Portsmouth, following a six-yard howler at Wimbledon a fortnight ago.

“Whether it’s Ryan Bowman or whoever else, I am getting to a stage with that where you have to say it’s not good enough,” Worthington insisted. “We have missed three chances like that during the last month to put games out of sight and I can’t accept it.

“It’s a lack of concentration and not watching the ball all the way to make sure it ends up in the back of the net. That’s not having a go at any individual but it’s something that has to be cut out by the whole team.”

Don't like to get too picky when it comes to our current form but my finger nails would be in a dam sight better condition if we'd have taken more of our chances in the past few games. 1-0's are great but I fear we'll get caught out eventually.

I hope i'm proved wrong but if Ryan cant put um in from 6yds and looking at Calvin's record its not exactly a scoring machine , it looks like Coulson is the player we have to look too.

simple one is this...sign him on! Coulson has been excellent, not just this season but at the start of last season too. the bad injury he had was so unfortunate. i believe he has earned a new contract

I hope Coulson goes on to better things, he has been treated badly by this Manager, he should have been first name on the team sheet, not ignored, not on the subs bench. We could have been in the top 3 with good team selection, with wins and 3 points, instead of the most dismal football seen on Bootham Crescent prior to 2014, and draw after draw, and players leaving the pitch after 90 minutes with not a single bead of sweat on their brow.
At least WE seem to be making progress now.

Michael Coulson is now getting fitter and stronger following his serious, career-threatening injury and I think we have brought him back at just the right pace. Now, he is also becoming quicker and add to this his fast-thinking and clever forward play (and great shooting ability), then, we have a very good player on our books. He's also a North Yorkshire lad and seems to be fond of the club, so Nigel, get him signed-on with a 30 month contract!! COYR.
