BOOTHAM 1 retained the Ted Plant Memorial Pairs Knockout Trophy with a close 3-1 win over Heworth 1 in a match which could have gone either way.

In the first game, Bootham’s Peter Jackson scored 40 points out of the total 49 scored by him and partner Andy Winn.

They went 29-19 ahead of Mark Robinson and Fred Mallinson then Jackson sunk yellow and followed with a green, brown and blue.

He added pink as Bootham won the first game 49-26.

Heworth’s Nick Hodgson and Colin Richardson went 40-22 in front with a fluked blue in the next and Bootham’s Norman Shipley and Peter Mattison needed a snooker.

Calamity struck for the Heworth pair as Richardson went in-off the pink and left Mattison an easy pot on pink to get position on the black to steal the frame 41-40.

In the third frame, Heworth’s Huw and Jamie Faircliffe gave away 20 points but only trailed by seven with five colours left. They added green and brown but Simon Robinson potted blue to put him and Rob Rochester ahead at 57-48.

Huw took pink but Rochester was left a straightforward pot on black for Bootham to win the frame 64-54 to lead 3-0.

Bootham’s Steve Cain and Ken Clifford lost 59-35 to Mick Lewis and John McCready, but Bootham won the match 3-1.
