YORK City Knights will lock horns again with former boss Dave Woods in the third round of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup.

The Knights were drawn at home to Woods’ Whitehaven side in last night’s draw, with the tie set to take place on Sunday, March 16.

The Aussie, after departing Huntington Stadium under a cloud at the end of 2011, took over at Haven ahead of the 2013 season and helped them to consolidate in the Championship following promotion. He agreed a new one-year deal at the Rec last August.

Woods’ men did the double over York in the league last year as his former club were relegated to Championship One, though they began their 2014 campaign in defeat to Keighley last week.

The cup draw was made at the home of Gloucestershire All Golds, against whom the Knights kick off their new season on Sunday.

The tie will also see York’s new recruit Lee Paterson take on his former team.

The Knights have arranged three under-20s reserves matches for the upcoming weeks, all against Championship opposition.

Mick Ramsden’s young charges will meet Featherstone on Thursday, March 6, Keighley on Thursday, March 13, and Halifax on Thursday, May 1.

All three matches are at Huntington Stadium with 8pm kick-offs.

The Knights’ opening day opponents in Championship One this Sunday, Gloucestershire All Golds, have signed former Hull, Toulouse, Sheffield, Doncaster and Dewsbury hooker Craig Cook.

The 30-year old was named the Championship’s top hooker in 2010 when playing for Sheffield.
