AN 81-71 conquest of Hornsea moved York IBC into third place in the Yorkshire League division three.

The York men collected 14 of the 18 points at stake thanks to three winning rinks.

At home, Ken Robinson’s team moved from 11-10 after 11 ends to 26-11 with two ends to go before dropping a four then a three.

Tony Hopcutt’s side came from 10-7 down to go into the last end 20-14 ahead before dropping a single.

Away, Eric Hodgson’s side led from the start to record a 22-14 victory while Geoff Walker’s side let a close match slip when they went from 15-13 with five ends to play to lose 24-13.

New Earswick went third after beating leaders Scarborough 92-75.

Gordon Storey’s team went from 4-3 down to leading 21-4 in the space of six ends en route to a 33-14 victory.

Brian Birch’s side hit a five on the last end but it did not halt a 23-18 loss.

Away, Dave Elcock’s side made the most of a good start. Ahead 12-2 after eight ends, they went on to win 25-17, while Gary Jones’s team led 15-13 with four ends to play but lost three of them and the game 21-16.

New Earswick, who picked up 14 points, are in fourth place, tied with city rivals York.


Mason mission next

YORK IBC will look to progress in the Mason Trophy as they take on North Cave, while York ‘A’ face their toughest task of the season when they play current champions Featherstone in the Yorkshire Over-55s League first division one.

Both games start tomorrow at noon.
