This live event has finished

11:26am

It's back to the drawing board for John Higgins after his last 16 loss to Stephen Maguire late last night.

Here's what he had to say about that match.

11:08am

Things are going to plan for Stuart Bingham. He is 3-1 up on David Morris at the mid-session interval

Ding and Ricky Walden are having more of a battle. Ricky is 2-1 up at the moment.

10:00pm

Apologies for tonight's problems. We have had techincal hitches which have prevented us from updating the blog.

We missed a great game too. Stephen Maguire beat John Higgins 6-3 and he hit the highest break of the tournament too - 144.

In the other match of the night, Shaun Murphy and Barry Hawkins are locked together at 4-4.

6:57pm

6:53pm

York Press: John Higgins

Coming up: Forget £150,000 and the UK crown, tonight's big clash is about who is going to pay for the Christmas night out.

John Higgins, pictured, and Stephen Maguire are good friends and they are facing each other for a place in the quarter-finals.

It's about more than pride, though. The winner is going to have stump out for the festive fun in Scotland. Expect a cut-throat encounter.

As we now drop down to two tables for the first time in the tournament, the other match sees Barry Hawkins take on Shaun Murphy.

5:12pm

Neil Robertson has been chatting about his win over Li Hang. You can hear his views by clicking the link.

4:50pm

Neil Robertson is also closing in on victory. He looks like he is going to record a 6-3 victory over Li Hang.

4:49pm

It's over. A break of 68 and Ronnie has dispatched Marcus Campbell. He's been impressive after the mid-session interval.

4:28pm

Ronnie is pulling some shots out now. Excellent stuff form the world champion and he looks like he might go 4-2 up.

Neil Robertson looks likely to go 5-3 up on Li Hang.

4:00pm

Mark Selby has been joined in the next round by Ding Junhui. He will play Ricky Walden in the last 16 after a 6-1 win over Fergal O'Brien.

3:56pm

Now leads Campbell 3-2.

3:56pm

That is some break from Ronnie. A couple of cracking reds late on and a break of 112. He's starting to move.

3:48pm

Job done for Mark Selby. Here's what he had to say about his 6-0 victory over Stuart Carrington.

3:39pm

6-0 Selby. That puts him into the last 16 where he will play Graeme Dott.

3:35pm

Important frame for Robertson too. He's won it and leads Li Hang 3-2.

3:33pm

Bit of resistance from Fergal O'Brien. He's won the fifth frame and now trails Ding 4-1. Selby could soon be taking it easy though.

He's 5-0 up and in the balls against Stuart Carrington.

3:17pm

But he gets away with it. Break of 58 and is 2-2 at the interval.

3:12pm

Ronnie looks out of sorts here again today. Terrible miscue on a red, while on 14.

2:58pm

Hang hits 51 and, suddenly, he is level at 2 each with Neil Robertson at the interval.

Campbell now 2-1 up on O'Sullivan. Interesting times again for the Rocket.

2:46pm

4-0 Ding and 4-0 Selby. Those two might not be on for much longer.

2:42pm

O'Sullivan fouls trying to touch up to the black and it is now 1-1.

2:41pm

Campbell - what an effort, thin cut to the left corner but it fails to drop. It's safe, though, and this battle keeps on going.

2:39pm

Elsewhere, Mark Selby and Ding are making easy progress. They both lead 3-0 in their games.

2:38pm

Campbell has found the top cushion with the white.

2:38pm

Campbell tried to cut it into the green pocket and missed. Ronnie then hit the jaws of both baulk pockets and somehow left it safe.

2:35pm

The second frame between Marcus Campbell and Ronnie has gone to a black ball.

1:55pm

Marcus Campbell has just missed an opening red against Ronnie O'Sullivan by such a long way I fancy some of the players in Cuezone would have made a better job of it.

He's back in the balls, though.

1:53pm

Li Hang has struck back quickly against Neil Robertson. It's 1-1 now. No such problems so far for Ding Junhui. He leads Fergal O'Brien 2-0.

Mark Selby is off to a good start against Stuart Carrington. He leads 1-0 and is 40 points clear in the second.

1:40pm

And Mark Allen has finally got post Michael Holt. His 6-5 win sees him set up a repeat of his 2011 final with Judd Trump at the Barbican in the last 16.

1:39pm

Robertson has just posted the highest break of the tournament to boot. That is a really impressive 141. The pink to the middle pocket to get up to the colours was a phenomenal shot.

1:38pm

Neil Robertson isn't hanging about. He has stated with a century against Li Hang. He is starting to get into some imposing form.

1:31pm

Ricky Walden was delighted to get past Mark Williams this morning. This is what he had to say about the match...

1:27pm

Michael Holt will not go away in this match. He has taken Mark Allen to a decider in their match. There's been some great snooker this morning.

1:06pm

Break of 137 for Walden. What a way to win a match like that.

1:04pm

Ricky Walden is going to knock out Mark Williams. He was 5-3 up and was pegged back to 5-5 but he is going to go through in style.

1:02pm

David Morris has ended Mitchell Travis' tourament with a 6-1 victory.

Travis said: "I am disappointed but I am overjoyed with my peformances. Hopefully I can keep it going.

"I am still buzzing. I have got some qualifiers next week so it's back to the practice table."

12:56pm

Might be a little bit of a delay with Ronnie. Mark Allen and Michael Holt are still ongoing on table one - it's 5-3 to the former - and Ricky Walden and Mark Williams has gone to a decider.

12:55pm

York Press: Mark Selby

Coming up: What an afternoon of snooker we've got in store at the Barbican.

The defending champion, Mark Selby, plays Stuart Carrington, while the world number one, Neil Robertson, is also up against China's Li Hang.

Two-time UK Champion Ding Junhui meets Fergal O'Brien and, last but by no means least, the Rocket Ronnie O'Sullivan takes the next step in his drive to another UK crown against Scotland's Marcus Campbell.

12:50pm

Break of 113 from Allen and he is just one frame from victory now at 5-3 over Holt.

12:41pm

Mark Williams is hanging on in there. It's 5-4 he now trails Ricky Walden. Mark Allen, meanwhile, has regained the lead against Michael Holt. It's 4-3.

12:27pm

Walden has now gone 5-3 up on Williams. It's looking bad for Mitchell Travis as well. The amateur, who has been one of the stories of the UK Championship so far, is 4-1 down to David Morris.

12:17pm

Michael Holt has also been on the comeback trail following the interval. It's now 3-3 between him and Mark Allen.

12:16pm

All over for Matthew Stevens. He has lost 6-2 to Robert Milkins, who was in pretty good form all morning.

11:48am

Ricky Walden, meanwhile, has completely turned around his match with Mark Williams. A break of 64 has just given him a 4-3 lead.

11:46am

Hard to see Matthew Stevens coming back. He's 5-1 down to Robert Milkins, who looks like he is playing too well to let this lead slip.

11:30am

Matthew Stevens has pulled a frame back against Robert Milkins but it still 4-1 behind. Ricky Walden, meanwhile, looks set to level at 3-3 with Mark Williams. That game could go down to the wire.

Mitchell Travis has put his name on the board and Mark Allen and Michael Holt are back out after their interval. It's 3-1 to Allen.

10:53am

Solid 70 break from Williams and he leads Ricky Walden 3-1 at the interval.

10:41am

Already starting to look a bit bleak for Matthew Stevens. He really needed to take the fourth frame but Rob Milkins, aided by a terrific red along the cushion, goes 4-0 up with a break of 75.

Elsewhere, Ricky Walden is on the board against Mark Williams and David Morris is two clear of the amateur Mitchell Travis.

10:16am

Some big strides already in the morning matches. Mark Williams is already two frames to the good on Ricky Walden and Robert Milkins leads Matthew Stevens by the same score.

Mark Allen has taken the opener against Michael Holt and David Morris leads Mitchell Travis.

9:34am

Players just coming out now for the start of the morning session. Looks like another decent crowd in at the Barbican.

9:05am

And here's Judd Trump dissecting his match last night against Xiao Goudong.

8:59am

Let's tie up a couple of loose ends from last night. Here's Ronnie O'Sullivan, courtesy of World Snooker, talking about his second round win over Adam Duffy.

8:53am

York Press: Mark Williams enjoyed a fine win in China

Coming up: This morning's action gets under way at 9.30am and Mark Williams, the two-time world champion, is among those in the main arena.

He plays his round three match against fellow top 16 competitor Ricky Walden in what looks like the tie of the early session.

Matthew Stevens hasn't had the most serene progress through to the last 32 so far but he is still in the competition. He'll need to improve, though, if he is to get past Robert Milkins.

Former York finalist Mark Allen takes on Michael Holt and what can the amateur Mitchell Travis do today? He goes for more UK glory against David Morris.
