Wigginton Bowls Club triumphed in the Ryedale Vets Sundella Cup final at Helmsley.

Captain Michael Wadsworth’s Wigginton ‘A’ team captured the trophy in a close match against Kirbymoorside ‘B’ (75-68) with two winning and two losing rinks.

The trophy was presented to captain Wadsworth by the Ryedale Vets chairman Tony Baker.

Captain Gary Stockton’s Wigginton ‘B’ team won the Ryedale Vets division three title when comfortably winning their final match against Sheriff Hutton 90-35 taking all eight points from the four winning rinks of skips David Moorhouse (26-5), Stockton (19-8), David Hawkins (27-16) and Michael Barlow (18-6).

In an all-Wigginton affair, Colin Ellis overcame Bill Tomlinson to lift the Vivian Booth singles trophy title 21-14.

They then teamed up in the Vivian Booth Pairs final only to lose out to the Kirkbymoorside duo of John Warriner and Pat Lowry 31-11.

At their first attempt, the Wigginton team of Moira Ellis, Dave Imeson and Norma Davies were successful in winning the Fred Dews Triples title.

Kirkbymoorside’s Warriner, Lowry and Alec Young sprinted in to a 15-4 lead after 12 ends but the Wigginton team staged a remarkable recovery in the last quarter, scoring 17 shots to their opponents’ solitary shot, to seal a 21-16 victory.
