WIGGINTON ‘A’ moved into second place in division one of the Ryedale League – gaining some consolation after exiting the Ryedale Vets Ossie Ashcroft Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Wigginton lost 76-41 in their last-eight tie at Malton, but they picked up a maximum eight league points after a 78-39 home win over Easingwold ‘A’.

The four winning rinks were skipped by Colin Ellis (20-7), Bill Tomlinson (17-13), Michael Wadsworth (24-10) and Dave Imeson (17-9).

Four of the club’s five York Amateur Bowling Association Veterans’ League teams won.

Ellis’ ‘A’ team had an impressive 34-10 victory at home to second- placed Dunnington ‘B’ and have every chance of winning the division two championship.

Imeson’s ‘B’ team, led by skip Tomlinson, won 18-9 at home to West Park ‘A’ to boost their hopes of surviving in the top division.

Tom Davies’ ‘D’ team had a 12-10 victory at Bishopthorpe ‘A’, while David Moorhouse’s ‘E’ side beat the Retreat 20-9. John Armstrong’s ‘C’ team went down 17-14 to division four leaders Hull Road Park.

Previous leaders Wigginton continued their slide down the BataGas Triples League table after a home defeat to Heslerton, picking up only a single point from the winning rink of skip David Moorhouse (16-14).

However, they went on to record a seven-point win at Hovingham (69-55) thanks to three winning rinks from skips Michael Barlow (17-10), Brian Hutton (20-13) and Imeson (17-15).

In the Private Clubs League, Wigginton ‘A’ beat Stamford Bridge 55-41 to pick up six points and they then claimed three points at Stillington after losing the aggregate 49-43. They are now second in the table.

The ‘B’ team are second in the third division after beating leaders Stewart 54-38 to take six points.

Division two champions Wigginton completed their Tockwith League fixtures with a 79-26 win over Bishopthorpe.
