YORK CITY’s players will not be pressed into a number of different positions throughout the League Two season, stressed manager Nigel Worthington, writes Steve Carroll.

In sharp contrast with former manager Gary Mills, whose stated transfer policy was to capture players who were versatile and could play in other parts of the pitch, Worthington said he ideally wanted to keep players performing in their preferred positions.

The Minstermen boss’s latest signing, Preston North End loanee Ben Davies, can turn out at both left-back and centre-back, but when asked if that was a factor in securing the 17-year-old, Worthington said: “You probably have one or two that can fill in different roles but, on the whole, I like players who can play in a position.

“You have got the structure of your team then. You are not messing about with personnel too much.”
