YORK ace Jack Leaning has signed an extension to his contract with Yorkshire CCC - with director of cricket Martyn Moxon saying it won't be long before he breaks through into the first team.

Attacking top-order batsman Leaning, along with opener Alex Lees, who was in the squad for the LV= Championship match at Derbyshire which started today, and wicketkeeper-batsman Dan Hodgson, has agreed terms taking him through to December 2015.

Said Moxon of the trio: "It is very satisfying that we have managed to get all three players signed up on long-term deals. They are progressing nicely into competent cricketers with bright futures at the club for many years to come.

“We have been delighted with the progress made by the lads this season. Alex has established himself in the Championship squad and has scored some important runs including his maiden Championship century at Lord’s against Middlesex. Dan has scored some important runs for the seconds and has contributed in Twenty20 cricket this season.

"Jack is making tremendous progress for the seconds and it won’t be long before he is knocking on the door of the first team.”

Yorkshire have signed nine players this summer on long-term deals. They include England internationals Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan and established first-teamers Gary Ballance, Steve Patterson and Moin Ashraf.

The White Rose, though, have not offered a new contract to spinner Gurman Randhawa, who is now free to speak to other counties.
