UNBEATEN York 1 toppled reigning champions Fulford 1 in division one of the IT Sports Mixed Doubles Tennis League.

York won the first round and then Fulford took the lead after round two, with top-scorers Sean Evans and Eleanor Bradshaw winning 12-0 – a rare scoreline in the top flight.

York fought back and snatched the win by six games, with the 57-51 result ending Fulford’s unbeaten start to the season.

Poppleton’s Nick Turnbull and Claire Smith won 31 games against Wetherby Castlegarth and then 30 games against Dunnington as their side moved into top spot.

David Lloyd ended the unbeaten run of Bubwith in division two, led by the unbeaten Andy Holmes and Frances Mutter.

York 3 moved into top spot after their last-gasp win against Rowntree Park.

Division three leaders Stamford Bridge beat Dunnington in a close match, while rivals Copmanthorpe edged out Sutton-on-Derwent.

A great team effort by Wigginton saw them take the points against Sherburn.

Fulford moved out of the relegation zone with a win against Stillington, whose Toby Pratt and Nicky Horn were unbeaten.

The top two teams in division five opened up a gap.

Chris Cheeseman and Lorraine Waudby led Wigginton to victory over Castlegarth and they stay top on games difference.

Fulford are just behind after a much closer encounter against Bishopthorpe. Fulford were unable to find a winning formula against Jamie Winspear and Ellie Page.

Edwin Knighton and Fiona Smith were top-scorers for Poppleton in a division six win over Tollerton.

Poppleton are now second after James Moss and Rebecca Turnbull won 28 games in a close victory over Appleton Roebuck.

Sutton-on-Derwent 2 stayed top after Tom Hitchenor and Fenella Hobson won 33 games in a triumph against Stillington.

Geoff Bullock and Emma Robertshaw sealed the points for Appleton Roebuck against Wilberfoss, winning 28 games.

Rufforth lead division eight after David Laws and Denise Riley won 31 games against Tollerton, while Charlie Dixon and Kate Lewis led the way against Appleton Roebuck.
