Broken leg for York City's Jon Challinor

YORK City defender Jon Challinor is likely to be out for six weeks after breaking his fibula during the Minstermen's 0-0 draw with Gillingham last night.

City boss Gary Mills described the injury as "a big blow" ahead of Saturday's game against Barnet, having been delighted with the clean sheet against the high-flying Gills.

seriously frustrating for Jon as he'd just got back in and he played well. lets hope he gets another start before the end of the season as i've got a feeling he may be released in the summer. get fit soon JC!

am i wrong in thinking if you break your leg your going to be out much longer than six-weeks..really do feel sorry for john..hope its mends real soon.

What a real shame. Jon looked very composed and finally provided some much needed attacking options from full back. Should have been utilised earlier in the season based upon last nights performance.

Yes and no. There are three long bones in the leg: femur, tibia and fibula. The first is the thigh bone, the second is the main shin bone and the third is a thin bone that sits beside the tibia on the outside of the shin. The first and second are big thick things that do pretty well all the weightbearing between them. Bust them and you have to wait not just until the fracture has healed but until full strength is restored, about three months. The fibula will usually heal quite quickly and with comparatively little muscle wastage, so you can get back in a shorter time.

Terrible news for John Challinor, after waiting for so long to get a game and then actually playing quite well.
I wish him a speedy recovery, but I would have thought that six weeks was a bit optomistic

I'm sorry for Jon but I still feel he's not up to it at this level. As usual, he made mistakes last night and could have gifted them a goal on at least 3 occasions. He and Chambers (and subsequently Rodman) were the weak links last night.

Have to agree with this.

Jon can be looking solid and strong in the tackle then give the ball away too easily with a mis placed pass or clearance too often. Decent squad player and gives lots of effort though. Seems to be a good bloke to have around. Gutted for the lad with his injury.

Rodman just doesnt look interested at all. Didnt gamble off any of Ranks flick ons and generally just didn't show anything when he came on. The game should have been set up for him to run at players and get about but he looks lazy.

Gutted for Jon, seems a top bloke and made the most of a rare chance last night. I think he would have started on Saturday after that so it's a real shame for him and the team. Very similar to Oyebanjo in terms of a freak injury (both against Gillingham coincidentally) just as he was taking his chance in the team. Hope for a quick recovery for both of them.

n - It seems slightly unfair to pick Rodman's performance out, especially after Saturday when he was one of the only City players to do a single thing well in the entire 90 mins. Admittedly he didn't set the world alight last night but he certainly wasn't dreadful so why criticise the guy? Positivity seems to be worryingly rare on here these days...

Have to disagree - I am sure most will agree Challinor had an excellent game up to his unfortunate exit. Also good to see Chambers back playing well and realising how he has been missed.Both got 8/10 in Press ratings. Rodman was only on for c15 minutes - Too short a time to make a judgement?

Firstly, the press always scores players too highly. Secondly and I've said it before, Chambers is far too wasteful and he can't tackle to save his life. Challinor is out of his depth and it seems that Kerr is heading that way also. As for Rodman - waste of space. But it's only an opinion.

Tell me where I said he was 'dreadful' in my original comment??

He looked (to me) lazy and was not interested in making the runs off Rankine that a substitue should be capable of.

It is a game of opinions but in mine, and many others, he is not improving the York squad in anyway.

Maybe you just like his hair cut or his shin pads!!?

I thought Rodman was ok, didn't stand out either for good or bad for me. Didn't think he looked lazy, but maybe missed out making some of the right runs off Ranks.

Best Wishes Jon and get well soon; I thought you had a decent game last-night with your link-up play/ability to deliver quality, high crosses into the box (with either foot) and which would have been just what Michael Rankine needed in the coming weeks. Let's hope you get back fit and in contention before the end of April. COYR.

At last a big striker yes we know him Michael Rankine we know his strengths wish we had signed him in the last deadline but he might just save our season hope gary mills plays mcdaid or iverson along side to feed off the flickons so give blair a rest too and see if we can score some goals starting with one of the poorer teams Barnet on saturday.p.s.bad luck Jon.

Its a shame about Jon, I thought he was having a good match last night also Matty Blair, Jamal Fyfield and I hate to say it Scott Kerr were much improved last night. I'd love to meet the sponsor who gave Ashley Chambers MOM, are they having a laugh. He is not match fit, lost the ball afew times and he freekicks from the right were woeful. My MOM was John McGarth. I thought he was immense, just the midfielder we need, someone who gets stuck in, passes the ball about and goes FORWARD. Is it me or has Rankine bulked up a bit or playing a division higher for a year and half helped him physically?

Thought that Challinor had a good game last night, unlucky with the injury. Could be the last time we see him in a city shirt. There will be a big clear out at the end of the season and he will be one of those to go.

Bad luck for Challinor, who had a good game on Tueday night. It means the awful Chris Smith will return on Saturday, with Parslow moving to right back. Barnet must be rubbing their hands.
