YORK’S Simon Dyson was due home for an enforced break this next fortnight after competing in golf’s innovative new venture.

Dyson was among a dozen top European players who tackled the invitational Pearls Golf Premier League tournament at the Aamby Valley course in India.

The inaugural winner was Dyson’s International Sports Management stable-mate Darren Clarke. The 2011 Open champion took the first prize alongside Chanchai Nirat and Snakar Das as part of the victorious Uttarakhand Lions franchise.

Dyson, who appeared for the Colombo Sixers team, the only one of eight from outside India, finished in the final team position.

The franchise, which was run by Sri Lankan cricket caption Mahela Jayawardene, finished 17 under for three rounds of 14 holes per round. Clarke’s Lions came in at 34 under-par.

Malton & Norton Golf Club ace Dyson, 81st in the new world rankings, will not resume his European Tour schedule until the Tshawne Open in South Africa from February 28 to March 3.
