PICKERING TOWN are on a revenge mission against Retford United tomorrow.

Manager Jimmy Reid and his resurgent squad have a score to settle when they look to leapfrog their ninth-placed opponents in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

In the latest in a succession of home games for the Recreation Ground outfit, Reid wants his men to atone for a 1-0 defeat earlier in the season to last year’s champions.

“They don’t concede a lot of goals, while we are very attack-minded so it should be a good game,” Reid said.

“We lost 1-0 to them down there when we battered them so we are looking for a bit of revenge for that. We’ll try to get the three points back.”

Arran Reid’s one-match ban, for being sent off in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Brighouse, hasn’t kicked in yet so he will remain in goal, but John Heads is still serving a three-match suspension.

Joel Ramm could be a doubt with tendonitis.

Reid will be able to select Lewis Taylor, however, who has delighted his boss by turning down a seven-day approach from high-flying Bridlington Town.

He added: “That’s a big boost for us as a club. We have looked after him. He has been with the club for three years. We had him in and out of the team, but we knew he had a future.

“We’ve talked to him. We knew he was always going to play and it was just finding the right time. He came in against Scarborough about 12 weeks ago and he has been absolutely unbelievable since.

“He’s only 18 and he needs to get the foundations down. He needs to spend another 18 months at Pickering, get games under the belt, and then we would help him push on.”

Carl Stewart’s second coming for Tadcaster Albion will see him make his debut at Winterton Rangers in the NCEL premier division.

The Brewers shocked the league this week when swooping to bring back the division’s joint-top scorer and he’s expected to go straight into manager Paul Marshall’s line-up as they travel to the basement outfit.

Marshall  is hoping the signature can revitialise Taddy’s promotion push and it would be a surprise if Winterton, who have managed just 13 points so far this season, can stand in their way.

Tadcaster’s home game against Parkgate, which was postponed on Tuesday because of a waterlogged pitch, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 12.

A near two-month break without any football did little for struggling Selby Town in division two. The Flaxley Road club returned to action on Wednesday in a 3-0 defeat at third-placed Albion Sports.

Now ten points adrift of second-bottom Appleby Frodingham, new boss Ian Dring will look for his side to rediscover the winning formula on home soil against Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Harrogate Town, 2-1 winners at Boston United in midweek, entertain Gloucester City at Wetherby Road in Blue Square Bet North, while Harrogate Town, who lost 3-2 to bottom of the table, but big spend, Garforth last time out, go to Ossett Albion in the Evo-Stik League division one north.
