A GAME some 60 years in the making takes place at Pocklington RUFC tomorrow.

The Percy Roaders host Morley in North One East for the first time since the 1950s and are hoping to get their first win of the year after a 49-5 mauling by league leaders Beverley last weekend.

When the two sides met at Morley in September, Pocklington dominated for long periods but let Morley off the hook, and they went on to win 24-10.

Since then, the Leeds-based side have been on a good run and are now third in the table and pushing for promotion.

Pock have prop Chris Morton back from suspension and hope Karl Durkin has recovered from a foot injury.

They have selected extra back row cover in former Pocklington School captain and Yorkshire Under-20 loose forward Richard Skowronek.

Centre Pete Massie is also in the squad after impressing off the bench on his senior debut at Beverley.

Selby, who rose to second in the Yorkshire Two table after victory at Ripon last week, are on the road at Roundhegians but there is still plenty to see at Sandhill Lane.

The Leeds Academy host Saracens Academy (kick off 2pm) and club chiefs are hoping spectators will turn out to see Carnegie’s stars of the future.

Nick Wright, Selby director of facilities, said: “Selby is an amateur club and has some of the best facilities in Yorkshire and with our new stand we can accommodate spectators with a perfect pitch side view of the action.”

Reg Phillips, club president, added: “Selby RUFC are proud to be asked to host this fixture as it shows that our reputation in Yorkshire is highly thought of.”

Back in North One East, Malton & Norton, who got the new year off to a flying start with a 20-12 win over Middlesbrough at The Gannock, have a huge home test against Beverley to negotiate.

Bill Laidler, club spokesman, said Malt would not be intimidated. “It’s a big ask, they have been strong all season. When we played them earlier in the season we gave a good account and we tried to knock them off their game.

“I think tomorrow will be very much the same. The players will be going to win. They are not afraid of them at all and, teamwise, we are getting to the stage where it is becoming interesting in terms of selection.”

Among those in the running for a start is New Zealander Pat Fifita, who club chiefs were pleased with following his debut last weekend.

York go on the road to North Ribblesdale in Yorkshire One.

The Clifton Parkers narrowly missed out on another win when Ben Hobson’s late conversion hit an upright in a 16-16 home draw with Dinnington.

York RI, shorn of key players, entertain Thornensians bidding to turn their Yorkshire Three season around with a win.
