A BRIDLINGTON backlash is expected when in-form York RUFC travel to the East Coast in Yorkshire One tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers dumped holders Brid out of the Yorkshire Shield 27-22 earlier this month and a run of four league wins on the spin has put York above their hosts in the table.

York coach Sean Bass said: “It’s a massive game away at Brid. They will be smarting from going out of the Shield.

“A win would move us further away from Brid and closer to Wath in fourth.

“It is a good league and there are some good teams in it. Scarborough were a tough test last week and Brid always are too.”

A run of six league and cup wins makes York one of the division’s form teams and Bass said: “We are happy with that, but we can’t look too far ahead. Our focus is on Brid this weekend.”

York’s second team are also playing at Brid tomorrow and Bass is keeping his opponents guessing by delaying naming his side.

“We are taking the seconds and it always helps when we are all on the bus together,” he said. “It will be a good atmosphere and we can call on them if we need them.”

The Clifton Park club are hopeful that full-back Alex Nixon will be able to return after missing the Scarborough win with a sore hamstring.

Struggling York RI, who slipped to the bottom of Yorkshire Three when their game was postponed last weekend, host promotion- chasing Bramley Phoenix tomorrow.
