RISING City of York Athletic Club shot put star Scott Lincoln was named sportsman of the year at the Hambleton Sport Awards.

The talented teenager was one of 16 winners at the Hambleton District Council event, which also honoured Olympic medallists Nicola Wilson and Kat Copeland.

Wilson, from Morton on Swale, won a team equestrian silver at London 2012 and rower Copeland, of Stokesley, struck gold.

The winners were:

• Junior Sportsman of the Year: Andre Robson from Easingwold (rugby union)

• Junior Disabled Sportsman of the Year: Jamie McPherson of Aiskew (football)

• Junior Disabled Sportswoman of the Year: Chloe Hunt and Karina Bean (gymnastics)

• Sportsperson of the Year: Scott Lincoln from Brompton (shot putt)

• Junior Team of the Year: Thirsk U12s Boys Hockey Team

• Club of the Year: Northallerton Tennis Club

• Coach of the Year: Adam Hall, who coaches boxing in Northallerton and Great Ayton

• North Yorkshire Sport Sportsperson of the Year: Callum Hall (swimming and pentathlon)

• North Yorkshire Sport Club of the Year: Northallerton Junior U12 Football Team

• North Yorkshire Sport Coach of the Year: Ken Harker (athletics)

• 123 Gold Inspire Award: Ryan Dury (gymnastics) and Heidi Marsden (horse riding)

• Service to Sport Award: Keith Houlston (Sessay Cricket Club)

• Lifetime Achievement Awards: Martyn Coombs and Adrian Grayson.
