A DERBY victory over New Earswick maintained York Indoor Bowls Club’s unbeaten start to the North Eastern League campaign, writes Ian Clough.
York’s ladies ran out 91-65 winners in the local skirmish, picking up eight points.
At Thanet Road, Joyce Gee’s team got off to a flier and led 19-0 after only six ends before Marjorie Watson’s team got on the board with a single then a three.
By the 12th end, the score was 27-5 and, although the visitors did well to stop the rot by winning the next five ends, Gee’s side took the last four to seal the game 33-14.
Margaret Moss made a good start and led 4-1 after three ends but, by the tenth, Pat Bracken’s team had come back to lead 11-6.
Two winning ends reduced the arrears to two shots before the home side took a nine-shot lead at 18-9.
Moss’ team too pulled back to go into the last end only four shots behind, but a four gave the home side a 22-14 victory.
At New Earswick, Audrey Imeson’s team had the edge in a tight game which saw singles scored on 11 of the first ten ends. They led 11-4.
Barbara Dawson’s team got back into the game with a two then a three but then the home side pulled away again and went on to win 23-11.
Irene Paylor’s rink did well as they came from 8-6 down to lead 20-8 before Annette Prosser’s side won five of the next six to make the score 22-14 going into the last end.
The visitors rounded off a fine afternoon with a three.
