VOLUNTEERS are needed to act as snow wardens in York this winter.
City of York Council is looking for keen residents to be trained to clear the worst of the winter snow in the city’s cul-de-sacs and minor side streets.
Each volunteer will be provided with a shovel, high-visibility vest and gloves and given safety training and operational techniques well before the winter hits.
Coun David Levene, cabinet member for environmental services, said: “When we saw the inclement weather over last winter more than 140 snow wardens did a brilliant job helped to clear snow and lay grit.
“I hope that even more residents will come forward this year and help their local communities.” Volunteers are asked to attend a training session this month where they will receive a demonstration of the council’s weather forecasting programme and a talk on health and safety.
