TWO burglars saw their break-in foiled — by a pet ferret.

The yelping pet alerted its owner to a disturbance at the property in Meadow Drive, Thorpe Willoughby, as she returned home.

When the owner went to check on the ferret, which is kept in the rear garden, she saw two men, who pushed past her and knocked her to the ground as they climbed into a black Volkswagen Polo and fled.

A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Although the woman was uninjured, this was a very frightening experience.”

The incident happened last Friday.

The suspects had distinctive tattoos. The first was described as aged 19 or 20, about six feet tall, with long, scruffy hair, and a prominent “tribal” style tattoo on his neck, and he was wearing a black Adidas jacket.

The second was aged 19 to 23, with blond hair, a scar on his chin, and was wearing a gold chain around his neck and a black T-shirt with a skull on it.

He also had a “tribal” style tattoo on his upper right arm, and another tattoo on his left forearm.
