SELBY District Council has received £137,000 from the Government to help it to work closely with North Yorkshire County Council in integrating and sharing back office staff and resources.

Local Government Minister Kris Hopkins said the authority was being rewarded for focusing on the needs of council tax payers and the people who used its services.

He said it had displayed innovative thinking and collaboration showing that residents could get the very best service while costs could also be reduced.

“This is further proof that local government can deliver significant savings at the same time as making sure that public satisfaction with services improves,” he said.

Selby is one of of 33 winning bids to the Government’s £9 million Transformation Challenge Award.
