A NEW Children’s University will be launched in Selby, to help educate seven to 14-year-olds in the town.
The national project helps to raise the self esteem, aspirations and achievements of young people, and will be run at Selby Community Primary School.
Children who take part will collect stamps in a special ‘passport’, and will graduate at special ceremonies with caps and gowns.
Ian Clennan, headteacher, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for schools, clubs and businesses to work in partnership to improve the lives of our children in our part of North Yorkshire.”
Nigel Adams, MP for Selby and Ainsty, said: “I am very much looking forward to visiting and learning more about the proposed Selby Children’s University. Anything that can help improve the prospects for our young people can only be a good thing.”
Businesses and community groups can get involved with the Children’s University, and an information day will be held on September 19 at Selby Community Primary School. To find out more or to book a place, go to children suniversity.co.uk
