VOLUNTEERS are needed in Selby to help transport elderly and isolated people around the district.
The Selby District Community Transport scheme is provided by Selby District AVS from the centre of the town, and arranges journeys for more than 70 clients each week who have limited mobility and no access to public transport, to help them get to hospital, their GP, bank or to hair appointments Currently, 12 volunteers use their own cars and the team now needs more people to take part.
A spokesman said: “We provide vital transport services to a wide range of people including the elderly, and those who are unable to access other forms of transport.
“The trouble is demand for our service is continually growing to the point where we are struggling to keep up and more drivers are therefore urgently needed.”
