A STUDENT from Selby College has designed the new logo for a local housing firm.

Tom Collins, who is in the first year of an extended diploma in Art and Design, took part in the competition, which was organised by Selby District Council, to design the logo for the Selby and District Housing Trust, which provides affordable housing in the district.

Councillor John Mackman presented Tom with an I-Pad Mini, donated by Keepmoat, and runners-up received iTunes vouchers, donated by Selby and District Housing Trust.

Tom said: "It's a huge honour to win this competition and I am looking forward to seeing my design used by the Housing Trust on projects across the district."

The Housing Trust is working on two sites for affordable homes on land in Tadcaster under the £5million Programme for Growth investment, which focuses on projects to boost the local economy.

Coun Mackman said: 'Having this great new logo is an important step forward for the Selby and District Housing Trust helping develop its identity and making its affordable homes recognisable across the district.

"The work of Selby and District Housing Trust is a crucial part of the housing and infrastructure work of the Council's Programme for Growth. This competition has been a great opportunity to work with young people in the community and get them involved in promoting the special work of the Trust."
