TRANSPORT issues in Scarborough will be discussed by a parliamentary group next month.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire is due to meet in Westminster to discuss future transport issues and development.

A meeting entitled Transport For Yorkshire will be held on September 15, and will see 20 cross-party MPs look at the extension of high-speed rail, the establishment of the “Northern Hub”, and how investments in the region’s transport infrastructure will deliver guaranteed returns in terms of future growth and prosperity.

Coun Derek Bastiman will represent the Scarborough borough at the meeting. He said: “Top of my agenda during the discussions will be securing certainty about maintaining Scarborough’s direct rail connections with York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool in the light of recent announcements regarding electrification of the transpennine network and improving the services.”
