FIREFIGHTERS are warning householders to make sure log burners are fitted by experts following a house fire in North Yorkshire.
Crews went to a home in the Scarborough area where a log burner had been fitted by the occupier and a local builder, but the external flue was not fitted properly, causing a fire within the wall and ceiling voids of the building.
Group manager Trevor Lund said log burners should only be carried out by a HEATAS-registered installer, who would also be able to give advice on the condition of existing chimneys, chimney breasts and fireplace hearths.
