YORK Potash, the company proposing to build a new deep potash mine between Whitby and Scarborough, has received positive results from its second drilling site.

The company has confirmed the site has two overlapping seams of high-grade potash, after drilling south of Ugglebarnby finished in January and mineral samples were analysed by the British Geological Survey.

Chris Fraser, managing director and chief executive of Sirius Minerals Plc, the parent company of York Potash, said: “This news continues the strong results obtained from the drilling programme so far and confirms the world-class nature of the York Potash Project. Drilling at our next site is progressing well and we continue to push the project forward as quickly as possible.”

The company is continuing to drill at its third hole at Raikes Lane and parts of a second coring rig have arrived at York Potash’s fourth site at the layby south of the Flask Inn and will shortly be moved to one of the forestry sites to commence drilling work there.

The proposed potash mine could create up to 5,000 jobs.
