PLANNERS have agreed to allow more time for work to start on a Ryedale housing development which has been stalled for almost four years.

Ryedale District Council granted planning permission for 24 properties near Pasture Lane, Hovingham, in April 2008, to Lindrick Homes, but work on the scheme has yet to start.

Inside Land (Midland) Ltd applied to the council last spring for an extension to the time allowed for the development to get under way, and the authority has now agreed that the firm can have three more years.

The estate would have five five-bedroom, four four-bedroom, nine three-bedroom and two two-bedroom properties, as well as four two-bed apartments.

The site was previously an orchard and Hovingham residents raised concerns about the development when it was first proposed in 2007, saying it was too large for the area and could block some views of the village.
