A MAN was airlifted to hospital today with spinal injuries after coming off his sledge at speed on a steep slope near York.
The 55-year-old man, believed to be local, was sledging in a field in Terrington when the accident happened this afternoon.
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance which attended the incident said: “The man was sledging with his family and went down a steep bank and came off the sledge at high speed and sustained spinal injuries. He was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. No one else was injured.”
He said the alarm was raised at 3.30pm.
Emergency services also attended a number of minor road accidents overnight on Saturday, due to the heavy snowfall and ice.
