NORTH Yorkshire Police Authority will meet on Thursday to discuss ways to replace Chief Constable Grahame Maxwell.
Mr Maxwell’s contract which expires in May is not being renewed after he admitted gross misconduct following an investigation into allegations of nepotism.
This week Home Secretary Theresa May blocked a bid by the county’s police authority to hire a replacement for Mr Maxwell.
The authority asked the Government before Christmas for approval to appoint a successor to Mr Maxwell on a contract until November 2014, but the request was turned down.
It means a temporary chief will take charge of the force until at least November when the county’s first elected police commissioner will be given power to appoint Mr Maxwell’s permanent successor.
The North Yorkshire Police Authority will meet on Thursday.
