PLANS for a new sports club in a Ryedale village could be approved next week, only four months after they were withdrawn.
Sherburn Parish Council has applied for permission to build the sports and social facility, together with a 24-space car park, in a corner of the playing fields at West Garth, in the village.
A decision will be made by Ryedale District Council’s planning committee when it meets next Tuesday, and officers have recommended the scheme for approval as long as the arrangements for parking and the internal layout of the building are modified.
A report by planning officer Rachel Smith said the new club would be “a sufficient distance” from nearby homes, although concerns had been raised that its bar could lead to antisocial behaviour.
However, she said: “It is also considered that improved facilities can provide a focus and activity for young people, thereby reducing potential for antisocial behaviour.”
The scheme, which was originally withdrawn in May before being resubmitted, would also see a portable building on the site being moved to provide extra changing facilities, particularly for junior sports teams.
