A MALTON couple are planning to drive 1,600 miles in just four days as part of a car rally to Benidorm - on three wheels.

Travelling in Daisy the Mad Cow, a Robin Reliant three wheeler, Vicky Turner and her partner Mark Stephenson will leave their home in Old Malton on May 6 to take on an epic journey to Benidorm as part of the Benidorm or Bust car rally which officially leaves from Blackpool.

Not only that but the couple have decided that if Daisy can get them there then she can take them back as well in their bid to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Cancer Research.

After her mother to cancer over 17 years ago and losing her father last year, Vicky, 38, and Mark, 37, decided that they wanted to take on an exciting challenge.

She said: “When I lost my dad last year I decided that I wanted to do something to raise funds and something that would make people more aware about the work Cancer Research and Yorkshire Air Ambulance does.

“My dad would have absolutely loved this, he would have been in the back of the car coming with us.

“Mark is a dairy farmer up in Pickering and my love of cows brought us together two years ago and everyone thought we were mad and so Daisy the Mad Cow was born.”

About 200 cars and 500 people are taking part in the Benidorm or Bust Rally and drivers will set off in groups with radios to help them communicate along the way.

Daisy the car will no doubt stand out with a 5ft milk churn attached to her back.

The route will see them drive through Calais and Zaragoza in Spain before reaching Benidorm four days later.

The couple are hoping to raise as much money as possible and local businesses have also got behind the team to raise money.

The Royal Oak in Old Malton is holding the Mad Cow Beer festival on Friday, April 17 and Saturday 18 to raise money and businesses are also able to sponsor a cow splodge on the car.
