VISITORS to the Kaboom Halloween and Bonfire Night event at Castle Howard on Saturday have expressed their disappointment over long queues and overpriced rides.

The firework display, which was staged at the stately home for the first time, included a funfair and entertainment with a Ghostbusters theme.

However Chris Rookes, from Rillington Fields, near Scagglethorpe, who attended the event with his family, said they had queued for around an hour.

"We didn't even try to get any food as it was taking around 45 minutes to get some as my sister-in-law found out ," he added.

"My kids went to go on a ride and the operators of the ride was just taking what they wanted off the kids. One was charged £3 then went to £4 and even people were complaining they they had just snatched £5 and gave no change. It was just robbery without a mask."

Other people took to social media to also express their disappointment with the event, however others said it had been a 'brilliant night'.

Mark Brayshaw, Rockin’ Horse Promotions on behalf of Kaboom, said: “We make every effort to ensure all our visitors experience a consistently high level of facilities, service and entertainment, so we are obviously very disappointed if any aspect of the event fell short of what we set out to achieve.

"With an event of this scale, attracting thousands of visitors to a new venue, we recognise there are going to be teething problems, and the organising committee is already planning in earnest for next year to make any improvements necessary.

He added: “Clearly, the fairground should have been charging a set price for the rides and it’s extremely worrying to hear that the people we have contracted with to provide the rides have done otherwise. We are taking up this specific complaint directly.”
