IF you haven't made plans for the weekend yet then here are five events happening in Ryedale.


Get active:
With temperatures expected to stay warm and dry, this weekend could prove to be the ideal time to get outside and take in some of Ryedale’s picturesque countryside.
The annual British Heart Foundation and Gazette & Herald walk takes place on Sunday. The circular four or eight mile walk will start in Appleton-le-Street at the Creswell Arms. The walk will also finish at the pub. Everyone is welcome, including dogs and no registration is needed.
Pickering’s Walking Festival also takes place over the weekend with a variety of walks suitable for all levels. Walkers can choose from one of seven different walks ranging in distance and led by experienced leaders. Head to pickeringwalkingfestival.co.uk to find out more.
If walking isn’t your thing, there will be a pleasure bike ride through the Yorkshire Wolds, near Huggate on Sunday. Leaving between 9am and 11.30am, riders have a choice of a nine, 13 or 17 mile route. Phone 07853451825 for more information.

Ryedale Vintage Tractor working weekend:
Vintage tractor enthusiasts are encouraged to head down to Howe Bridge Farm near Malton on Saturday and Sunday for the annual Ryedale Vintage Tractor and Engine Club working weekend. Visitors are invited to bring their own vehicle or simply admire the other vintage tractors on display. Vintage tractors will also be working the land, trashing and bailing and on Sunday the highly anticipated ploughing match will take place. Entry is free but donations to local charities are welcome.

Autumn Fair:
Helmsley Walled Garden will host its autumn fair, keeping visitors entertained with a variety of stalls. From homemade cakes, gifts, cards and knitwear to juices and soft furnishings there will be something for everyone. The garden will also be open for visitors to wander around and visit The Vine House Cafe. Sitting within the Victorian vinery nestled amongst the grapes and tranquil garden, the cafe is the perfect place to relax and enjoy a light lunch or an afternoon tea after browsing the stalls. Entry in to the fair, which opens at 10am, is £1.

Get your dancing shoes on with Billy Elliot:
Straight from London’s West End, Helmsley Arts Centre will put on a performance of Billy Elliot The Musical on Sunday night.
Based on the Academy Award nominated film, the musical tells the story of young Billy who great up in a small mining town during the 1984-5 miners’ strike. Watch the show as Billy’s journey leads him out of the boxing ring and into his ballet shoes, inspiring his friends and family along the way. The show will start at 6.30pm and tickets are £16 for adults and £8 for under 18’s.  For more details visit helmsleyarts.co.uk

Great Western Railway trains arrive in Ryedale:
This weekend’s autumn steam gala at the North York Moors Railway will welcome locomotives from the Great Western Railway (GWR).
The event will welcome 28xx 2-8-0 No 2807 "Heavy freight", No. 1501 Hawksworth Pannier and celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2014 "Castle" 4-6-0 No 5029 Nunney Castle. The NYMR’s own 75029 engine Green Knight will be the fourth Swindon built locomotive to support the gala.
Real ale bars will also be open at Levisham and Goathland stations, along with trade stands and steam runs along the Esk Valley line from Whitby and Grosmont to Battersby station.
Scarborough and District Railway Modellers will also be displaying a model railway exhibition in the Learning Centre at Pickering Station on Platform Two. For more details phone 01751 472508.
