A NORTH Yorkshire MP has said an increase in funding for primary school sport may help the battle to save a seaside town’s swimming pool.
Filey Swimming Pool closed earlier this year because of maintenance and running costs and North Yorkshire County Council budget cuts. Anne McIntosh, MP for Thirsk and Malton, said the Government had allocated £150 million for PE and sport in primary schools, with her constituency, which includes Filey, getting £472,155 to be divided between its schools.
She said: “This is potentially a very important income strand to assist the Save Filey Pool Action Group.”
