HUNDREDS of cheering well-wishers presented flowers, cards and even a balloon to Prince Charles and his wife when they visited an East Yorkshire village.

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, says she can't wait to see the new Royal baby - and still doesn't know his name.

The Duchess accompanied Prince Charles this morning on a brief visit to the tiny Wolds village of Bugthorpe, near Stamford Bridge, on the second day of his tour of Yorkshire.

It was their first public appearance since the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth yesterday to the Prince's first grandchild, a baby boy.

Hundreds lined the village green while the couple went walkabout, chatting happily about the Royal family’s new arrival.

Jennifer Chester, who had travelled to Bugthorpe from near Boroughbridge, said the Duchess told her: “We are all absolutely thrilled.”

Debbie Lister, from Pocklington, a member of the Wolds Childminding Group, based in the town, said she told the Duchess that members of the family had been making bets on the possible name for the new baby, saying the names included James and her daughter's suggestion of Spencer.

She said the Duchess had replied that she was still waiting to hear the name. “She said: ‘We can't wait to meet it - I mean him!’ “ Several children presented flowers to the Duchess, including Libby Anderson and Lily Davies, both aged six, from Stamford Bridge. They also presented a card to the Duchess which said: “To Prince Charles and your family. We are soooo excited about the new royal baby. Congratulations.”

Sharon Bartle, from Youlthorpe, and her four children Bethany, six, twins Lilly and Esther, aged four, and Abigail, one, presented flowers and also a blue balloon with the message 'It's a Boy' on it to the Duchess.

The couple also met elderly residents from Stamford Bridge Beaumont, a care home, Alec Dale, 88, and Marjorie Eastwood, 87.
