MEET Micro Lamb – a tiny new arrival at a Ryedale farm who has already attracted fans from aound the world.
Weighing little more than 2lb when he was born in the freezing weather on Sunday, Micro Lamb is the latest addition to 22-year-old farmer Gareth Barlow’s 400-strong flock of rare-breed Hebrideans.
The tiny lamb was so small, Mr Barlow nearly missed him as there had been no sign the ewe was expecting.
A Twitter account @MicroLamb set up on his behalf yesterday had more than 300 followers from as far away as New Zealand and Australia.
Mr Barlow – who is not from a farming family and who gave up his zoology studies at Durham University to pursue his dream – said about the reaction to Micro Lamb: “I’m especially delighted to see people are engaged with farming.
“While this is a surprise, it’s equally a delight.”
The meat Gareth produces at Bulmer has been eaten by royalty and is supplied to more than 20 top restaurants.
