WE need a deterrent to stop the torture and killing of animals. Five years in prison, and a lifetime ban from keeping any animals would make animal abusers think twice.
In one recent case a man killed his dog with a hammer. He said he was drunk at the time. He now regrets what he did.
Let us hope his home is a prison cell for a few years. Then maybe other cruel pet owners might think twice before they hurt an animal. All readers should write to their MP, calling for tougher sentences. The Press itself could also help by calling for tougher sentences. Help the animals now.
